Nirjala Ekadashi Vrat Katha (Story)
According to Vishnu Purana, Bhim one among the 5 Pandavas children of Kunti was not able to observe Ekadashi like his brothers (Arjuna, Yudishtira, Nakula, and Sahadeva) used to. Bhima was the most powerful among all the Pandava brothers. But, all of his brothers worshipped Lord Vishnu and observed fast on each of 24 Ekadashis while Bhima couldn’t resist his hunger and therefore couldn’t even think of keeping a fast. So,his grandfather Sage Ved Vyas gave him a solution and suggested him to observe a fast on Nirjala Ekadashi and worship Lord Vishnu without food, water and sleep for 24 hours chanting prayers and names of Lord Vishnu. This will grant him with all the fruits of all the 24 Ekadashis and set him free from all the distractions.
Whoever observes the fast on this day, gets all the blessings of Lord Vishnu and the gains of all the 24 Ekadashis and sets him free from all his sins.
